A Mound the Size of a Hill
Yudaganawa — 2 km northwest of Buttala
MOUND AND IMAGE HOUSEPhoto by Anjale8891 on Wikimedia CommonsThe lower brick terraces are restored, but most of the dome is still a grass-covered hill you can walk all the way around.
An ancient stupa 2 km northwest of Buttala with a base circumference of about 317 meters — one of the largest stupa footprints in Sri Lanka. Tradition links it to the reconciliation of the brother-kings Dutugemunu and Saddhatissa in the 2nd century BCE.
