“The tallest free-standing ancient Buddha statue in Sri Lanka, carved from one block of stone.

An 11-metre standing Buddha carved from a single limestone block in the 7th century, deep in the countryside near Buttala. The statue lay toppled and broken for centuries until it was restored and raised again in 1991.
