A nesting beach with four decades of hatchery records, releasing up to 10,000 hatchlings in a year.

The nesting beach at Kosgoda, 76 km south of Colombo, used by five of the world's seven marine turtle species: green, olive ridley, loggerhead, hawksbill and leatherback. A hatchery has operated here since 1981, and the 2004 tsunami surged more than a mile inland before the project reopened in March 2005.
