Widely regarded as the finest rock-cut Buddhist sculpture in Sri Lanka — the reason most visitors come to Polonnaruwa.

Four Buddha figures cut from a single granite ridge in Polonnaruwa's ancient city, carved in the 12th century under Parakramabahu I. The 14-metre reclining Buddha and the standing figure beside it are the best-known images of Polonnaruwa.
