One of the few places in South Asia with free-roaming feral horses, reached by a public ferry from the Jaffna peninsula.

A national park declared in 2015 covering Neduntivu (Delft), a flat coral island in the Palk Strait about 35 km southwest of Jaffna. Herds of feral ponies, descended from horses left by colonial settlers, still roam its open grassland.
