Shallow, swimmable water a short drive from Jaffna town, on an island reached by causeway rather than ferry.

A thin strip of beach on Velanai Island, 11 km from Jaffna across the causeways, with changing rooms, picnic gazebos and snack vendors. Archaeologists have worked the site since 2009, turning up finds from prehistory to medieval Chinese trade, and it once held an LTTE war cemetery that was later destroyed.
