Water has stood behind this bund for roughly 2,400 years — it is among the oldest recorded reservoirs in Sri Lanka still holding water.

A reservoir built by King Pandukabhaya around 380 BCE on the western edge of Anuradhapura's sacred city. Its earthen bund is a short walk from the Sri Maha Bodhi area.
