Terms of Use

Islewise is an independent, hand-curated travel guide and trip-planning service for Sri Lanka.

It is operated independently by a single editor.

In these Terms, “Islewise”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of the Islewise service.

Islewise is not a tourism authority, travel agency, booking provider or emergency service. Unless clearly stated otherwise, it is not affiliated with the places or businesses included in the guide.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an Islewise account.

If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you should use Islewise only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian.

Some Islewise features require an account.

When creating or using an account, you agree to:

• Provide accurate account information
• Keep your sign-in details secure
• Not access another person's account without permission
• Not allow your account to be used unlawfully
• Notify us if you believe your account has been compromised

You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless the activity resulted from a security failure that was within Islewise's reasonable control.

You may stop using Islewise or request the deletion of your account at any time.

Islewise gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and revocable permission to use the service for lawful, non-commercial travel planning.

This includes permission to:

• Browse the guide
• Create and save trips
• Edit trip plans
• Share trip plans with people travelling with you
• Submit place suggestions

This permission does not transfer ownership of Islewise content, software, branding or design to you.

You must not:

• Use Islewise for unlawful, fraudulent or harmful purposes
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or another user's account
• Disrupt, overload or interfere with the website
• Introduce malware, harmful code or security threats
• Circumvent security or access restrictions
• Use bots or automated tools to excessively access or copy the service
• Scrape or republish substantial parts of the guide
• Impersonate another person or organisation
• Collect information about other users without permission
• Use a shared trip to harass, threaten or expose another person
• Use Islewise in a way that infringes another person's rights

Normal personal sharing, quoting and linking are allowed. Bulk copying or republishing the guide as a competing product is not.

You may voluntarily suggest places or submit comments, links and supporting information.

You keep ownership of original material you submit. However, you give Islewise a non-exclusive, worldwide and royalty-free permission to review, store, edit, adapt, reproduce and publish that material as part of operating and promoting the guide.

You confirm that:

• You have the right to submit the material
• The information is provided honestly
• The material does not infringe another person's rights
• The material is not unlawful, abusive or misleading

Submitting a place does not guarantee that it will be added to the guide. Islewise may edit, reject or remove a submission at its discretion.

Where practical, you may ask us to remove unpublished personal information included in a submission.

Islewise may allow you to share a trip through a link.

Anyone who receives the link may be able to view the trip information. The recipient may also forward the link to someone else.

You are responsible for deciding what information to include in a shared trip. Do not add sensitive personal information or information about another person without their permission.

Islewise cannot control screenshots, copies or information saved by another person after you share it.

Islewise is intended to help you discover places and organise a possible itinerary. It is not professional travel, safety, medical, legal or financial advice.

Information may be incomplete, inaccurate or out of date. For example:

• Opening hours and admission prices may change
• Roads, trails or attractions may close
• Weather and sea conditions may change quickly
• Public transport services may be delayed or cancelled
• Travel times may vary because of traffic, road conditions or stops
• A place may not be suitable or safe for every traveller

Driving times, visit lengths, schedules and suggested routes are estimates only. They should not be treated as live navigation instructions or guarantees that a trip can be completed within a particular time.

Before travelling, you should independently check important information with official authorities, transport providers, accommodation providers, local operators or the place itself.

You are responsible for considering your own health, experience, transport, insurance and personal safety.

Places are included because they have been selected through Islewise's editorial process. Their inclusion does not create a partnership, agency, sponsorship or commercial relationship between Islewise and the place.

Islewise does not control and is not responsible for a third party's:

• Products or services
• Prices or availability
• Staff or customer service
• Safety procedures
• Booking terms
• Refund or cancellation policies
• Website or privacy practices

Any booking, purchase or arrangement you make with a listed business is directly between you and that business.

Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience. You should review the third party's terms and policies before using its service.

The original writing, photographs owned by Islewise, selection of places, design, branding, software and arrangement of the guide belong to Islewise or its licensors.

Islewise does not claim ownership of public facts, place names or information that cannot legally be owned.

You may share links to Islewise and quote short extracts for personal or editorial purposes with appropriate attribution.

You may not copy, reproduce, sell or republish a substantial portion of Islewise content without written permission.

We aim to keep Islewise available and useful, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.

We may:

• Correct or update content
• Add, change or remove features
• Remove outdated listings
• Restrict access during maintenance
• Change how accounts or trips operate
• Discontinue part or all of the service

You should keep your own copy of any trip information that is particularly important to you.

We may restrict, suspend or close an account where we reasonably believe that:

• These Terms have been materially breached
• The account creates a security risk
• The account is being used unlawfully
• The account is interfering with the service
• Suspension is required by law

Where reasonably possible, we will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue.

Sections relating to intellectual property, third-party services, disclaimers, liability and governing law continue to apply after an account is closed.

Islewise is provided on an “as available” basis.

Although we try to provide useful and accurate information, we do not guarantee that:

• Every listing is complete, current or accurate
• Every place will meet your preferences
• A suggested trip will be suitable for your circumstances
• Travel times will match actual conditions
• The website will always be available or free from errors

Your use of Islewise and your travel decisions remain your responsibility.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

To the extent permitted by law, Islewise is not responsible for loss or harm resulting from:

• Inaccurate or outdated travel information
• Changes to opening hours, prices, roads, weather or local conditions
• Acts or omissions of a listed place or third-party provider
• Decisions made based on a suggested route or estimated travel time
• Information included in a trip that you choose to share
• Temporary interruption, loss or modification of the service
• Unauthorised access caused by your failure to protect your account

To the extent permitted by law, Islewise will not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the service.

These limitations do not apply to fraud, deliberate misconduct or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

Our collection and handling of personal information are explained in the Islewise Privacy Policy.

By using Islewise, you acknowledge that information will be handled as described in that policy.

We may update these Terms as Islewise develops or legal requirements change.

The effective date at the top shows when the Terms were last updated.

Where a change materially affects account holders or how an important feature operates, we will take reasonable steps to provide notice through the website or account email.

Your continued use of Islewise after revised Terms take effect means you agree to the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka.

Subject to any rights that cannot be excluded under the laws where you live, disputes relating to these Terms or Islewise will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Sri Lanka.
