Islewise is an independent travel guide and trip-planning service for Sri Lanka.

Islewise is operated independently by a single editor.

In this policy, “Islewise”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of the Islewise website and service.

The information we collect depends on how you use Islewise.

Account information

When you create an account, we may collect your:

• Email address
• Username
• Name
• Profile picture
• Sign-in provider information

When you use a third-party sign-in service, such as Google, we receive only the basic account information that the provider makes available to us.

We use this information to create and secure your account, sign you in, and connect your saved trips to your account.

Saved trips

When you create or save a trip, we store information such as:

• Places added to the trip
• Trip dates
• The order of places
• Day plans and overnight stops
• Notes or other details you add

We use this information to save, display, organise and update your trip.

Shared trips

When you share a trip, people who receive the sharing link may be able to see the places, dates, notes and other information included in that trip.

Sharing links may be forwarded to other people. You should not include confidential, financial, medical or other sensitive personal information in a shared trip.

Deleting a trip or disabling sharing, where that option is available, may prevent future access through the link. It will not remove copies or screenshots that other people have already made.

Place suggestions

When you suggest a place, we collect the information you submit, which may include:

• The place name and location
• Your comments or recommendation
• Links or other supporting information
• Your email address, if you choose to provide it

Providing an email address is optional. Where you provide one, we may use it to contact you about the suggestion.

Communications

If you email or contact us, we collect the information contained in your message and any contact details you provide. We use this information to respond to you, resolve issues and improve Islewise.

Analytics and technical information

Like most websites, Islewise may automatically receive basic technical information, including:

• IP address
• Browser and device type
• Pages requested
• Date and time of access
• Error and security logs

We use this information to operate the website, prevent misuse, investigate errors and maintain security.

Islewise may also use an analytics service to understand how visitors use the website. Analytics is disabled until you choose to accept it at sign-up or in your account settings.

• Saved trips are kept until you delete them or close your account.
• Place suggestions are kept while they remain relevant to reviewing, maintaining or improving the guide.
• Support messages may be kept to maintain a record of the request and our response.
• Technical and security logs are retained for a limited period unless they are needed to investigate a security issue or comply with the law.
• Backup copies may remain temporarily until they are replaced through the normal backup cycle.

We may retain limited information for longer where required for security, dispute resolution or legal compliance.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration.

These measures may include encrypted connections, access controls, secure authentication and restricted administrative access.

However, no website or online storage system can guarantee complete security. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for notifying us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to Islewise, contact privacy@islewise.app so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

Islewise may link to hotels, attractions, transport operators, restaurants and other third-party websites.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites. Their collection and use of information are governed by their own privacy policies and practices.

We may update this Privacy Policy when Islewise changes or when legal requirements change.

The effective date at the top of the page shows when the policy was last updated. Where a significant change affects how we use your information, we will take reasonable steps to provide notice through the website or your account email.
