Elephants are reliably spotted on half-day jeep safaris, with far smaller crowds than Yala.

A 300-square-kilometre park on the edge of the central hills, split between savanna grassland, scrub, and the large Udawalawe Reservoir. Home to one of the most visible populations of wild Asian elephants in the country.
