Its 25-day Nallur festival in July and August is the largest Hindu festival in Sri Lanka.

The main Hindu temple of Jaffna, rebuilt in 1734 in its present form and crowned by a golden gopuram tower. Daily pujas run on a fixed schedule, and men remove their shirts to enter.
