The Old Ganesha Temple by the Tank

Mamangam Pillaiyar Kovil — 2 km north of Batticaloa town centre

One of the oldest kovils in Batticaloa by local tradition, listed among the district's temples, 2 km from the town centre.

A Ganesha temple on the northern edge of Batticaloa beside the Mamanga Theertham tank, held by tradition to date from the 2nd or 3rd century and to mark the spot where Rama prayed to Shiva. The annual Mahotsavam festival ends with a chariot procession pulled by thousands of devotees.
