One of the few shrines on the island where Buddhist, Hindu, and Vedda tradition share the same sanctum.

A pilgrimage town on the Menik Ganga at the edge of Yala, sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, and the Vedda community alike. The Kataragama Devalaya honours the god Skanda-Murugan, and the Esala festival each July–August ends with firewalking.
