The flamingo park — Sri Lanka's first Ramsar wetland, where migratory flocks settle between September and March.

A coastal national park of lagoons, salt pans, and dunes east of Hambantota, declared in 1993. It was Sri Lanka's first Ramsar wetland, and greater flamingos winter on its lagoons in large flocks.
