The open-enclosure layout lets you see big animals without bars, a short walk from the Pinnawala elephant orphanage.

An open zoo that opened in 2015 at Pinnawala, next to the elephant orphanage between Colombo and Kandy. Animals are kept in moated, open enclosures rather than cages, with lions, zebras, and giraffes among the larger species.
