Bone arrow points found in the cave have been dated to 48,000 years ago — the oldest evidence of bow-and-arrow technology outside Africa.

A prehistoric rock shelter known locally as Pahiyangala, in the Kalutara District southeast of Bulathsinhala. Excavation finds date human occupation to about 33,000 years ago — among the earliest evidence of human settlement on the island.
